I just met the former president Bush and his wife, Laura Bush! When I was introduced as “Tammy, our intern from Rice University,” they looked rather pleasantly surprised to meet someone else from Texas. We had a short conversation (while the crowd awkwardly listened) during which they asked me what year I was in, if I was studying to be a doctor, and how I liked it in Houston. It was very surreal — I actually got to have a short conversation with a former president and former first lady!

PS. – Afterwards, the staff commented on how he showed a lot of interest when Rice University was mentioned. Jaks said, “So, Rice is a VERY significant university, then!” Go Rice! 😉
