Presenting at Morning Report

This week we were able to present to the pediatric morning report. We had been shadowing the two weeks before in order to understand the environment and the people we were presenting to. We prepared a Powerpoint presentation and then asked for any critiques or comments on the technology and requested ideas for new design problems. The presentation went well, and many of the doctors seemed very interested. Most of the new residents seemed most interested in the scope, while the attendings had a lot of commentary on the bubble CPAP. Afterwards we were approached by a resident from the DRC who told us that the technology could have an important impact on his country as well.

After that we returned to the clinic to continue working on the trial. Between patients I’ve been working on an analysis project. Each Friday at the clinic, a Q/A meeting takes place in order to double check the work at the screening clinic. Dr. Doreen goes through each of the pictures and decides whether the patient should be recalled. This typically happens if the picture is too blurry or if the nurse missed a lesion. I typed the records of each of these recalls into a spreadsheet along with what happened during their recall appointment. I finished this analysis project this week and presented the results at the Q/A meeting. Dr. Doreen seemed happy with the results but wanted to see how these had changed over time. I will continue to work on this through the next week.

This weekend I stayed home with the flu, but I’m all better and excited to explore Gaborone with Lina a little more next weekend. The strike here has been suspended until further notice, so we can go back to the main mall and explore the shops there.
